Set amongst the large, open arable fields of rural Fife, yet only a relative short walk from St. Andrews, Lambieletham was originally built to serve the St. Andrews to Anstruther section of the ‘Fife Coast Railway’, which has since been dismantled.

Now a family home, the existing 19th century stone and slate cottage is now the central ‘living’ space of the house. A small porch has been added to the cottage to provide refuge from the weather, while two modest single-storey accommodation wings form an open courtyard to the West. Given the context, it was intended that the cluster of buildings appear as a small farmstead, with the two new wings being subservient to the existing cottage.

The local agricultural vernacular has also influenced the appearance of the house. Iron-red is specific to this region of Fife, therefore the new extensions have iron-red stained timber clad walls, corrugated aluminium roof sheeting and solar panels. A simple interior of pine, cork and plaster finishes the interior.
